Split Pea Soup

A life long favorite.  Yellow or Green it is a Finn thing

  • 1 lb split peas, dried yellow or green
  • 1 stalk celery, diced
  • 1 or 2 carrot, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 or 2 smoked
  • or
  • 1 meaty ham bone.


  • Wash and rinse the split peas.  Let sit overnight in a large pot with two inches of water.  Drain and add two quarts of water and the bone .  Bring to a boil, add celery, carrot, onion cover and reduce to simmer.
    Simmer two hours or until thickened.


This is a wonderful winter soup.  I enjoy it anytime of the year.
